I’m a researcher in human-computer interaction with an emphasis on natural user interfaces and interaction in creative contexts. My particular interest is in interfaces for authoring time-based visual media, such as animation: I like to explore what animation creation and editing interfaces of tomorrow could look like. In my PhD research (completed in 2014) I investigated animation on interactive surfaces. I proposed guidelines for designing touch-based animation interfaces and used these in developing performance-based animation creation and timing techniques. From 2007 til 2014 I was coordinator of the Graduate School Advances in Digital Media.

Projekte

Turning the animation process into a performance: With LIVA, a presenter can create compelling animations from scratch in front of an audience.

How can playing strategy games teach robots to make pancakes? We explored using human computation games for robot programming by demonstration.

NUIfy is an add-on for Blender that integrates input through natural user interfaces. It currently supports full-body skeleton, hand, multi-touch, and speech input.

The animation loop station is an ongoing exploration of the possibilities of integrating motion capture and production control in performance animation.

Dragimation is a technique for performance-based interactive timing of animations. Use direct manipulation to drag your animation and record the timing.

Dieses Projekt erforscht Möglichkeiten und Verfahren, um 3D Modellierung mit Hilfe von Multi-Touch Oberflächen zugänglicher und effizienter zu gestalten. 

Die Möglichkeit, über Multi-touch Geräte mehrere Freiheitsgrade direkt und gleichzeitig zu kontrollieren sollen den komplexen Prozess der Animation einfacher, intuitiver und damit zugänglicher machen.

Parcival XX-XI ist eine Live-Performance, in der Aspekte der traditionellen Kunstformen Tanz und Theater mit neuen Medientechnologien verbunden werden.

Der Grundgedanke des Projekts Showtime unterliegt der Interaktion analoger Bühnendarstellung und computergestützter, technischer Möglichkeiten der digitalen Darbietungen.

In diesem Projekt erforschten Studenten diverse Ansätze, die Darbietung von Musikern, Tänzern und Schauspielern mittels neuester Technik zu bereichern.

Als Plattform für neue Interaktionskonzepte und Anwendungen haben multitouchfähige Tische in der letzten Zeit eine zunehmende Bedeutung erhalten.

MarbleControl ist eine neuartige Benutzungsschnittstelle, die mit Hilfe von Beschleunigungssensoren eine einhändige Bedienung von mobilen Geräten ermöglicht.
